Bonfires & Marshmallows – Burned Rosemary & Orange Whiskey Smash

Some of these early, crisp fall nights call for a cozy fire and my Burned Rosemary & Orange Whiskey Smash. I adore the warmth of a bonfire. And whenever we have one, I crave a good whiskey and some roasted marshmallows.

This whiskey smash is extra special: whiskey with it’s hints of vanilla & caramel meets earthy rosemary, and slightly bitter & fruity oranges. Before you drink it, lightly burn the tips of rosemary springs and then add them to your drink. That way, you will smell the rosemary every single time you take a sip of this hug of a whiskey smash. I love this drink and I hope you live it, too.

Burned Rosemary & Orange Whiskey Smash

Ingredients for 2

  • one pinch of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves
  • 10 cl Whiskey or Bourbon
  • 8 cl lemon juice
  • 3 cl sugar syrup (Monin)
  • 1 teaspoon bitter orange marmalade (Koo)
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 orange slices
  • 2 rosemary twigs
  • a lighter

In a mortar & pestle, combine 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves with a pinch of brown sugar and grind the rosemary into crumbly paste.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes & add the rosemary paste, whiskey, lemon juice, sugar syrup, and the bitter orange marmalade.

Put the strainer lid and cover on tight and shake well for about 30 seconds. Take two glasses, fill with some ice cubes & one slice of orange in each and pour the whiskey smash through the strainer into the glasses. With a lighter, slightly burn the tips of two fresh rosemary springs and add a spring to each glas.
